The link between content and SEO

When we get into SEO, we think it's helpful to talk about a 'digital footprint'.

By this we mean everything your brand or company publishes online. In most cases, this is your website and the content you publish on it. But also about your social media activity as well as things like Google reviews.

Most people accept that posting regular content on your website’s blog is a good thing. Today we’re going to look at why publishing regular content, such as a blog, is great for your SEO performance and how you can maximize it.

A symbiotic relationship

SEO and content are neither the same thing, nor are they completely different. There’s a lot of overlap between the two. But most importantly, they greatly enhance each other’s performance. You can think of it as a symbiotic relationship. But the good kind, not the parasitic kind.

Aspects of SEO, such as keyword targeting, usability, and link building, will help your content be found much more easily. If you make sure your content is high quality and published regularly, Google will know what your website is about, all of which will help improve your SEO rankings.

Keywords

Keywords and phrases are a central part of SEO. In one sentence, try to match the keywords on your website with what users are searching for online. In reality, it’s much more complex than that, and Google has clever ways of understanding the intent behind a user’s search and what and how useful the information on your site is.

Content is the perfect mechanism to include a large number of your chosen keywords in your website. In general, the more keywords included and the more content, the better your ranking.

High quality content

The caveat to publishing content regularly is that it must be of high quality. Google has been incredibly active in this regard since 2011. Google will penalize your rankings if your content is keyword stuffed and reads poorly, lacks useful information, and is simply a copy of someone else’s work.

The other benefit of creating great content? Your readers will keep coming back for more.

Make sure your content is written for a specific segment of your audience and that it addresses a topic specific to that segment. If it is fresh and unique, it will be indexed much higher.

Online interactions

Although Google has reduced the impact of links to other sites with good authority, it is still a good idea to include links in your content. First, it is helpful for your users if you are able to show your work and share your sources. Second, you never know when someone will return the link. Links back to your website are absolutely beneficial for your SEO. And finally, there are still some who believe that outbound links benefit your SEO, so why not?

The content is also great for your social media. It gives you something to share with your followers and is the perfect way to get more eyes on your content. All the likes, comments, and shares you accumulate also contribute to your digital footprint. The more active you are, the better your chances of moving up in the search rankings.

We never say there are quick and easy answers when it comes to SEO. In the end, only Google knows exactly how it works. However, we know from experience that some things are just a good idea. That’s why we know that content and SEO go hand in hand. They should be performed simultaneously and not in isolation.

Do you need help creating fresh and unique content or do you need help with the technical aspects of your SEO? Let’s have a conversation.
